Biography

Richard trained at one of the top drama schools in the UK; Arts Ed London, before working as a professional actor in film, television and theatre throughout London, LA, NYC, Sydney and Melbourne. During his third year at drama school he also played a small role in George Lucas’ ‘Star Wars – The Phantom Menace’.

He has trained with acting legends such as Ellen Burstyn, Larry Moss, Howard Fine, William Esper, Susan Batson, Joanna Merlin, Margie Habor, Terry Schreiber, Scott Williams, Catherine Clouzet (Berliner Ensemble) and Cicely Berry (Head of Voice at the Royal Shakespeare Company, London).

Richard co-founded three independent theatre companies in Australia, acted in several Australian National TV Commercials, and starred in various award winning feature films and television series with such acting icons as, Hugo Weaving and Xavier Samuel in the feature ‘Healing’, Ben Mendelsohn in ‘Tangle’ for Showtime TV (HBO/Foxtel), and Craig McLachlan in ‘The Doctor Blake Mysteries’ which screens on ABC TV (Australia), BBC TV (UK) and PBS TV (USA).

Richard also played the lead in the internationally award winning film ‘Lily’, directed by rising star Kasimir Burgess, winning the Crystal Bear Award for Best Film at the Berlin International Film Festival. ‘Lily’ screens regularly on ABC TV.

He played a lead role in an Off-Broadway play directed by Broadway director Terry Schreiber in Simon Stephens' "Harper Regan". The production was nominated for 'Best Revival of a Play' at the New York Innovative Theatre Awards.

Richard played the lead in an Aussie/German co-production feature ‘Wedgetail’ that is hitting the international film festival circuit and has already been selected and won multiple awards for the Queens World Film Festival, New York 2018, Molodist 47th International Film Festival, Long Island International Film Festival New York, The 5th Indian Cine Film Festival India, The Great Message International Film Festival India, 2nd Festival Internacional De Cine Independiente De Trujillo Peru 2017, 8th EKO International Film Festival Nigeria 2017, San Jose International Film Awards Costa Rica 2017 and The South Film and Arts Academy Festival, Chile 2018, including a 'Founders Choice Award for Outstanding Performance in a Feature' for Richard Stables at the Queens World Film Festival, New York 2018.

Richard recently played Michael Leunig's father in the feature "The Leunig Fragments", produced by Madman Entertainment and Film Camp.

When not acting Richard teaches Vedic Meditation.
